Vice-Chancellor's Scholarship terms and conditions
1. Eligible students
1.1 The financial scholarship is a £1,000 award open to:
- Students who have been made an offer as part of the Unconditional Offer Scheme.
- Students who meet the above condition, who firmly accept an offer from the University to study a full-time eligible undergraduate course, starting in September 2019.
- UK and EU students (international and Channel Islands students are not eligible to receive the Scholarship).
2. Eligible courses
2.1 Full-time, campus-based, undergraduate courses. These are BEng (Hons), BSc (Econ) (Hons), BSc (Hons), BA (Hons), CertHE Dental Nursing, DipHE, LLB (Hons), MEng, MMath, MPharm (Hons) and MPhys (Hons) courses only. Please note, there are exceptions to this rule. Faculties consider courses on an individual basis before confirming whether they are eligible for the Unconditional Offer Scheme.
2.2 The following courses are not eligible: BN (Hons), CertEd, CertHE Paramedic Practice, FdA, FdEng, GradCert, HNC, HND, MOptom and short courses.
2.3 Students must have completed their registration onto year 1 of their course to receive the Vice-Chancellor’s Scholarship.
2.4 Students awarded the Vice-Chancellor's Scholarship will receive a £1,000 scholarship in the first year only. The scholarship payment is subject to students registering and providing their bank details. The University of Portsmouth will inform eligible applicants of how and when these payments will be made at the earliest available opportunity.
2.5 The list of eligible courses is subject to approval, modifications, closure and suspensions.
3. Academic criteria
3.1 Successful applicants will meet or exceed all predicted grades stated in their application.
3.2 Applicants must complete their exams and meet or exceed our minimum standard entry requirements – 2 A levels (at A*-E) and 3 GCSEs (at grade C/grade 4 or above).
4. Application process
4.1 There is no need to apply for the Vice-Chancellor scholarship; applicants will automatically be considered and notified if they meet the student and course eligibility criteria.
4.2 Applicants will not be notified if they do not meet the student and course eligibility criteria.
5.1 Scholarships will be allocated and students notified once results have been confirmed and verified.
5.2 Students will then be required to provide bank details to the University Admissions Centre, who will advise when the payments will be made.
6. Operational terms and conditions
6.1 Scholarships will be made to successful students on eligible courses, subject to the availability of the limited awards.
6.2 Scholarships are subject to applicants receiving an Unconditional Offer Scheme offer, which they select as their firm choice.
6.3 Students who defer their place to September 2020 or later will not be eligible for the scholarship.
6.4 The £1,000 scholarship will be paid into a bank account chosen by the student.
Internal Server Error

6.6 Students who suspend their studies before receiving full payment of the award will not be eligible for the scholarship. No extenuating circumstances will be taken into consideration.
6.7 Students who transfer to an ineligible course, prior to us making the payment, will become ineligible for the scholarship.
6.10 Applicants who receive the University of Portsmouth Vice-Chancellor's Scholarship will still be entitled to apply for student loans, bursaries and scholarships, subject to their eligibility.
6.11 The University’s decision on the allocation of the scholarship in accordance with these terms and conditions is final. There is no appeals process.
